About Chris Cutler and Redemption Wines

Chris Cutler and Byron KosugeI was literally born into art. In 1973, my father had recently graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in Business, and was pursuing a Masters of Fine Art at UC Santa Cruz. So, while other kids played golf and baseball with their fathers growing up, I was at museums or traveling around the world taking in new cultures. This desire to explore carried on into my college years when I lived in Spain and was introduced to the world of wine. I later attended the business school at Stanford GSB, and decided to start a wine company which would showcase the work of artists, as well as custom labels for boutique hotels, restaurants and corporate gifts, called Canvas Wines. A brief stint with new partners nearly sunk the business and I made it a personal goal to revive the company, focus on the finest quality wines, the best up-and-coming artists, and call it “Redemption.”

Today, Wines of Redemption is just that. I work with my heroes in winemaking – Sam Baxter, Emmanuel Kemiji, Byron Kosuge and Pat Knittel – to bottle balanced, age-worthy Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc. I also take great joy in working with some of the best new artists in the world, like Gary Taxali and Thomas Campbell.

Together, we are bottling Redemption, which will always be as profound on the inside as it is on the surface.
